Colorful Trails Hiking Series is a morning program featuring 6 different hikes where you’ll have the opportunity to explore the beautifully diverse landscape of Franklin County and lend your eye to help identify trees of interest. Our master naturalist will ensure we stay in the right family of trees. Guided hikes will be held every Tuesday from October 16 through November 20. Hikers of all skill-levels are welcome.

Smith Mountain Lake Community Park – 2 mile hike (Easy)
November 13 (9 am – 12 Noon)

This 37 acre peninsula features numerous amenities including a fishing pier, picnic shelter, playground and 2 miles of hiking trails with wonderful one-of-a-kind views of Smith Mountain Lake. This by far is the easiest and shortest hike of the series but by no means does that equivocate boring.

Online registration is available. Ages 10 & up must be accompanied by an adult 18+. Complimentary shuttle will be provided for most hikes or participants can meet at the trail head. Time indicates shuttle from the Essig Recreation Center, 295 Technology Drive, Rocky Mount and estimated time of return
